Alexandra DeGaris Lacrosse CoachAlexandra DeGaris of Hillsborough has been named Immaculata High School’s new Girls Lacrosse Coach. A recent graduate of Rowan University (D-3) with a double degree in Education and Liberal Arts, along with a certification in teaching students with disabilities, Coach DeGaris brings her experience as a high school and a college lacrosse player to the team. In addition, she has served as a coach at Ultimate Lacrosse for two summer seasons.

“Coach DeGaris is a perfect fit for our program,” says Athletic Director Tom Gambino. “She knows what it takes to succeed as a college athlete in today’s environment, has a great love for girls lacrosse, and sees coaching as an extension of her teaching profession. When she came into school to meet our team, our players were thrilled at the prospect of playing for her. She will be a great role model and knows firsthand what college coaches are seeking, as well as the delicate balance needed to juggle academics and sports at the next level.”

Coach DeGaris’ favorite sports quote is from New England Patriots Coach Bill Belichick. “On a team, it’s not the strength of the individual players, but it is the strength of the unit and how they all function together.” She feels that the chemistry of the team is the key to a winning program. “ I had opportunities as a D-1 scholarship winner at other schools, but when I stepped on Rowan’s field and met the girls there, I knew that it was home,” says Coach DeGaris. “This is the same feeling I felt when I walked into Immaculata and met the team. I want to make sure that the girls have the same experience that I had during my four years in college. I want these girls to feel like family on the field, off the field, and in the classroom.

“For me it is an incredible opportunity to coach at Immaculata. I was impressed with the team’s focus and dedication. I feel confident that with their potential and with our game plans, that this team will have potential to be a strong competitor in the Skyland Conference.”

Athletic Director Tom Gambino is very positive about the addition to his staff. “ Coach DeGaris will help bring our girls lacrosse program to the level where we are competing for conference titles and championships. We are thrilled to have her as a Spartan.”
