Prospective Music Students

Frequently Asked Questions

What are all of the performing groups you offer?
Concert Band (Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble and 9th Symphony (Freshman Band)), Marching Band & Color Guard, Spartan Choir, Chamber Choir, Indoor Percussion, Spring Musical, Pit Orchestra, Music Ministry, and Jazz Band.

Will I miss any academic classes through participation in music (usually referred to as a pull-out program)?
NO. Music is a scheduled class within the school day. It is an elective, however it replaces Physical Education/ Study Hall. Music is a regular class that receives a grade and credit like any other subject. There are CP and Honors level classes and placement in those classes is by audition.

Do you offer other music classes other than band classes?
Yes we do! We offer Fundamentals of Musicianship (H), AP Theory, Concert Choir (H), and Independent Music. Please visit here for more information.

Do I have to be in the Marching Band if I want to take music?
NO. However, it is strongly encouraged! Unless the student is playing a fall sport, they should be participating in the Marching Band. It is a fun and exciting activity that is unlike any other in the school. Get involved in high school—it will be worth your while!

Do I have to already know how to play an instrument to participate in the music program?
NO. We teach many students new instruments every year. We will teach any band instrument that a student wants to play.
