Immaculata's Matt DiPietro received the prestigious Bill Denny Rutgers Football Letterwinners and College Hall of Fame Award this past Sunday at the Pines Manor in Edison. The Bill Denny Award is presented to Somerset and Middlesex County athletes who have excelled in both classroom and on the football field.

Matt, who will be attending Lehigh University in the fall, will play wide receiver and study business. He is the first Immaculata Spartan to receive this award. Matt was accompanied by his mom and dad at the awards banquet as well as coaches and representives from Immaculata High School.

A two sport varsity athlete playing both football and lacrosse at Immaculata High School, Matt has lettered two years in football and three years in lacrosse. Matt was selected as a first team offensive player in the Mid State 38 Conference as a tight end. He was also selected as a Courier News All-Area Honorable Mention this past season. At Immaculata, Matt has a 3.87 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society. He is also a member of Catholic Athletes for Christ, is active in Immaculata’s Campus Ministry program and participates annually in the school’s Christmas Toy Drive. In the community, Matt has volunteered at the Somerset Food Pantry and is an active participant in Shopping for the Elderly. He has also volunteered as a guest reader for preschoolers at the Flemington Jewish Community Center.
