Congrats to Our 2024 Valedictorian & Salutatorian!

Sharbella Jacobs of Hillsborough, a future biomedical engineering  major at the Rutgers University Honors College, has been named valedictorian of Immaculata High School’s Class of 2024. Maya Mathews of Somerset, a future business major at Villanova University, has been named salutatorian. 

Commencement for the Class of 2024 will take place at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 35 Mountain Ave., Somerville, on Friday, May 31 at 6 p.m., with a Baccalaureate Mass set to take place in the church the night before at 6 p.m. 

Sharbella Jacobs: This year’s Valedictorian is Sharbella Jacobs, daughter of Roukos and Tacla Jacobs, in Hillsborough. Before coming to IHS, she attended St. Augustine of Canterbury School in Kendall Park. At IHS Sharbella is a member of the Marian Scholars Program, the Classical Studies Program, and the Health Science Signature Program. She is President of the National Honor Society, on the Student Council and Campus Ministry Executive Boards, a member of the cross country and track teams, a co-founder of the Middle Eastern Alliance Club, and part of the American Scholastic Math Association. Outside of IHS, Sharbella is a member of the Maronite Youth Organization, her church choir and folk (Dabke) dancing group, and she is a CCD teacher. Sharbella will be attending the Rutgers University Honors College to study Biomedical Engineering.

Maya Mathews: Immaculata’s 2024 Salutatorian is Maya Mathews, daughter of Allison and Casey Mathews, from Somerset. Maya attended St. Matthias School before coming to IHS, where she is an altar server for St. Matthias Church. Maya’s activities at Immaculata include several honor societies (National Honor Society, Rho Kappa Honor Society, Tri M Music Honor Society, and Spanish Honor Society), Black Student Union (President), Model UN (President), Student Council (President), varsity cheer (captain), choir, chamber choir, a capella choir, spring musical, math league and the Marian Scholars Program. Outside of school, she is a competitive dancer and runs her own baking business. In the fall, she will be attending Villanova University to study Business.
