What A Gift

For his Boy Scout Eagle project, Griffin Leger '20 made a beautiful donation to Immaculata, creating this handcrafted beautiful portable altar. It was fitting that the altar was used for the first time at the Annual Spartan Memorial Mass today. “I approached Dean of Students Mr. Webber about creating my Eagle Scout project, connected to Immaculata. He suggested building a new portable altar, which seemed appropriate, because my siblings and I have been serving Mass at our high school for over 15 years and at the parish for 25 years.”

The next step was to present designs to Immaculata, get approvals, and then work with the Boy Scout Association District Advancement Committee. They helped to recruit a team of Scouts, non-Scouts, leaders and parents to help, solicit donation, buy material and set up a build schedule. The altar took three months to complete. “I loved the fact that the altar will be a part of the school, long after I graduate. Immaculata has been an important part of my family; all eight Leger children will be alumni this June. This altar honors my parents’ commitment to a Catholic education and represents our family’s strong connection to this school.”

Director of Campus Ministry Maureen Cote added, “I was delighted to see the new altar be first used at this special event, where so many alumni and their families gathered. The altar is lovely and obviously made with attention to detail, including painting our school's motto, Unitas Caritas, on the front panel. Griffin's choice of this as his Eagle Scout project was timely and his efforts, a wonderful display of faith and friendship to our school.”
