USBands ScholarshipIn conjunction with a partnership with the BAND Mobile App, USBands proudly announces Emily Holland of Branchburg from Immaculata High School in Somerville, as one of two national recipients of the USBands first Scholarship Award for excellence in musical participation and community engagement.

USBands received scores of scholarship applications for the 2018–2019 academic year from young people who met the criteria of demonstrating magnificence in their communities, articulated how their involvement in music has influenced their lives, and described how that will continue in the future.

In her scholarship application, Emily Holland wrote that “While extraordinary talent is always admired and appreciated, it is not a requirement to truly enjoy and get the most out of marching band and the music programs. Throughout high school, being a part of the marching band, and then branching off into other music programs offered, has given me experiences that shape me as the person I am today. It gave me the confidence to express myself, whether it be through music or with words. The opportunities and cherished memories I was given including taking an active part in something bigger than me and creating something magnificent, are things I will cherish the rest of my life.”

Marching Band Director Ed Webber stated that “Emily is a fantastic student. Her efforts in music are representative of her character. She epitomizes the best that Immaculata has to offer, hardworking, well-liked by her peers, and always willing to help others. We are thrilled that she received such an honor by USBands.”
