Record Breaking Day for Immaculata Swimmers

The Immaculata Swim Team had an incredible showing at this weekend's Somerset County Championships. During the morning session, the ladies showed what Spartans are truly made of.

Freshman Maeve English broke the school record in the 500 meter swim for the second time in 5 days. Last Monday at the Skyland Conference Championships, Maeve shattered the school record by 28 seconds! On Saturday, she broke her own record by an additional 2.5 seconds, setting the new mark at 5:25.76 for the 20 lap event.

Not to be outdone, fellow Freshman Abigail Stowe destroyed the previous 100 meter breaststroke record by 12 seconds at Monday's meet. Yesterday she bested her new record by an additional second, setting the new standard at 1:12.85 for the 4 lap event. Freshman Kayla Braun also set a Personal Record in the 100 backstroke event with a time of 1:26.69.

During the afternoon session, it was the boys' turn to shine. The school record in the 4x100 meter Freestyle Relay was broken by 9.3 seconds. The team consisted of Sophomore Michael Harkins, Senior Griffin Leger, Junior Ryan Heerema, and Sophomore Brian Bull.

Brian Bull contributed significant points to the team score by taking 3rd place in both the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle events. Ryan Heerema placed 7th in both the 200 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke events. Michael Harkins set Personal Records in the 200 Freestyle by dropping 22 seconds in the 200 Freestyle and 5.25 seconds in the 100 Freestyle.
