Engineering Class Tests BridgesEvery year students in the Intro to Engineering class undertake a project to build truss bridges out of manila file folders and wood glue. Students are broken into groups. Each group is given the same blueprints and instructions to build a truss bridge and each group is given the same materials. Groups are graded on how quickly and how neatly they build their bridge. The final part of the grade is how much weight the bridge can support. The highlight of the project is the testing process, when each group piles weight on top of their bridge until it fails. The group whose bridge held the most weight was MJ Bautista, Isabelle Jalandoni and Frank Torok (below). The group that achieved the highest overall score for speed, neatness and strength was Brandon Cortez, Greg Massey and John Williams (right).
